About Playing the Sax

Is playing the sax hard?

Only practice makes an instrument easy.

That being said, the saxophone is not hard to learn.

The saxophone is the most modern of all concert band instruments (invented in the 1840s). Seems like a long time ago, but considering the flute has been around in some form since the Paleolithic era, the sax is a pretty new arrival on the scene.  It was actually designed to be the easiest of all woodwinds to play. Therefor the fingerings can be learned quickly, and sound production is pretty simple. Make the right face and blow. Playing real music, playing something beautiful? That takes some serious practice on any instrument.

But what if I have no talent? What if I stink?

The answer:  DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT!

Remember: A skill is something that can be learned, practiced, and developed.

Playing the saxophone is a skill.

You do not need talent. You need a little patience. You need to practice. If you have talent, great. You might need less patience, but you still need to practice!

That’s why anyone can learn how to play the saxophone.
